Coghlin Wins 600th Game in Green Knights' Rout of Finlandia

HANCOCK, Mich. - St. Norbert College coach Tim Coghlin won his 600th career game as the Green Knights rolled to a 9-1 win over Finlandia University in a Northern Collegiate Hockey Association game at Houghton County Arena.

Coghlin became just the fourth coach in NCAA Division III history to win at least 600 games at that level. In his 28th season at St. Norbert, Coghlin owns a career mark of 600-160-58, a glittering winning percentage of .769. Coghlin is just the 14th coach at all levels of NCAA hockey to win at least 600 career games.

St. Norbert (4-3, 3-0 NCHA) wasted little time in taking control of the game, with Peter Bates scoring at the 4:42 mark. Evan Cholak added a goal at 10:09 of the first period, while Michael McChesney added an unassisted marker at 11:51 for a 3-0 lead after first intermission.

The Green Knights doubled their lead when Bates scored a power-play goal 52 seconds into the second period. McChesney added another goal at 3:54, followed by a Peyton Frantti goal at 10:43. Finlandia would get its only goal of the game on a power-play marker from Sheldon Brett at 13:53 for a 6-1 tally after two periods.

Brock Baker scored a pair of goals 36 seconds apart early in the third period, scoring at 4:17 and 4:53. Brendan Aird then posted a power-play goal at 10:38 of the third period to close out the scoring.

Seven Green Knights finished with multi-point games. Bates, Baker and McChesney all had two goals and one assist for three points, while Frantti had one goal and two assists for three points. Aird had one goal and one assist for two points, while Liam Fraser and Michael Spethmann each had two assists for two points.

St. Norbert outshot Finlandia 35-16. The Green Knights were 2-for-7 on the power play while the Lions were 1-for-7.

Colby Entz made 15 saves in making his season debut for St. Norbert. Marcus Gloss made nine stops for Finlandia while Connor Duffy made 17 saves in relief.
