DE PERE – St. Norbert College took the ball away from Wisconsin Lutheran College nine times and used that as the impetus behind a 68-0 win in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference game at Schneider Stadium.
St. Norbert tied a school record with seven interceptions and also recovered two fumbles and scored 42 points off the takeaways.
Senior defensive back
Kendall Karcz intercepted four passes, the most in a game for a Green Knight since Bill Van Lanen pilfered a school-record five aerials against Loras College on Oct. 6, 1957. Three of Karcz's interceptions came in the first quarter. St. Norbert's seven interceptions matched a school record, also achieved on Oct. 5, 1963 against Ferris State University and on Nov. 4, 1951 against Loras.
Karcz's first interception stopped a Wisconsin Lutheran drive at the St. Norbert 33-yard line. The Green Knights needed 10 plays to march 67 yards and score on a
David Lox 4-yard run. The Green Knights added to their lead when Wisconsin Lutheran muffed a punt at its own 3-yard line, with Lox scoring on the next play to put St. Norbert ahead 14-0. Karcz then returned an interception 53 yards for a touchdown on the last play of the first quarter for a 21-0 lead.
On the next series Karcz then returned an interception 71 yards for a touchdown, becoming just the second player in school history to have two "pick-sixes" in the same game. Karcz joined John Rappel, who turned the trick on Sept. 29, 2007 against Knox College.
Ben Kohl then found
Ethan Kleckler on a 5-yard touchdown pass and
Parker Lawrence on an 11-yard scoring aerial for a 42-0 halftime lead.
Charlie Hietpas scored rushing touchdowns of 3, 2 and 2 yards in the second half, while Kohl hit Lox for a 21-yard touchdown pass to account for St. Norbert's second-half scoring.
St. Norbert outgained Wisconsin Lutheran 343-169. The Green Knights had 242 rushing yards, led by Hietpas' 63 yards on 11 carries. Kohl completed 14 of 24 passes for 102 yards and three touchdowns.
Alex Meisenheimer caught four passes for 21 yards, while Lox had three receptions for 28 yards.
Kyle Santos and
Maccabee Barrett paced St. Norbert's defense with eight tackles apiece, with Barrett adding an interception.
Kevin Pedersen had six tackles and 1 1/2 quarterback sacks.
