
DE PERE - St. Norbert College became the lone unbeaten and untied team in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference men's soccer race following a 4-2 win over Edgewood College at Schneider Stadium.
The Green Knights (7-4-1, 6-0 NACC) moved alone to atop the NACC standings after Dominican University's 2-1 loss to Marian University and Milwaukee School of Engineering's 1-1 tie with Concordia University Wisconsin. St. Norbert is halfway through the 12-game NACC schedule.
St. Norbert took a 1-0 lead into halftime against Edgewood, with
Mitchell Scholz taking a long serve from
Joe Meade and finishing on the run at the 27:21 mark. It was Scholz's fifth goal of the season.
The Green Knights pulled away in the second half, with
Matthew Wright doubling the lead with a header off a
Lucas Rojas corner at 54:54. St. Norbert boosted its lead when
Jacob Hause's sliding finish of a
Jonathan Hill cross at 76:16 pushed it ahead 3-0. Edgewood scored at 87:20 on a Noah Mesdjian goal, but the Green Knights regained their three-goal edge on a score by
John OConnor off a
William Jens pass at 89:21.
St. Norbert dominated the run of play, outshooting Edgewood 28-3. The Green Knights had nine corner kicks to Edgewood's one. The match was a clean one, with only three fouls per side.
Nate Jocz earned the win for St. Norbert, working the first 78 minutes without seeing a shot on goal. Jack Gentner made five saves for Edgewood.
