STEVENS POINT - St. Norbert College scored four goals in the first 10 minutes of the game as the impeetus behind a 5-3 win over UW-Stevens Point in a non-conference game at K.B. Willett Arena.
The Green Knights (1-1) salvaged a split after suffering a 4-3 home loss to the Pointers (1-1) in the opener of the home-and-home series between the last two NCAA Division III national champions.
Adam Stacho put St. Norbert on the board just 2:34 into the game off an assist from
Tim Nicksic. The Pointers would tie the game 1-1 on a goal by Brandon McReynolds at 7:35, but Nicksic would score his second goal of the season just 16 seconds later to retake the lead.
Michael McChesney would cash in a power-play goal at 8:48 for a 3-1 edge, while
Peter Bates generated a turnover and scored unassisted for a 4-1 edge just 9:37 into the game.
St. Norbert would hold that lead into the second period until Stevens Point scored on a Jordan Fader marker at 4:25. It wouldn't take long for the Green Knights to go back ahead by three goals on a
Brendan Mark score at 6:03.
The 5-2 St. Norbert lead would hold up until Stevens Point got an extra-attacker goal from Nicholas Aromatario with 2:39 remaining.
Nicksic and Bates each had one goal and one assist for two-point games.
Both teams had 26 shots on goal.
Johnny Roberts made 23 saves for the Green Knights. Eli Billing started and took the loss, making eight saves in the first period. Ryan Wagner made 13 saves working the last two periods in net for the Pointers.
St. Norbert was 1-for-3 on the power play, while Stevens Point was 0-for-3.
