
DE PERE - St. Norbert College scored 20 points off Benedictine University miscues but couldn't hold down the Eagles offensive in a 41-34 setback in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference game at Schneider Stadium.
The Green Knights had three drives start at the Benedictine 11-yard line or better and converted all three chances into touchdowns, but the Eagles put up over 400 yards of passing offense to register 41 points.
St. Norbert fell behind 14-0 in the first quarter after Benedictine mounted a 16-play, 75-yard drive that took 8 minutes, scoring on a 3-yard touchdown pass from Tyler Jarnagin to Deandre Holliday. Eli Webster then scored late in the period on a 2-yard touchdown run for a 14-0 lead.
The Green Knights got back into the game when a Benedictine punt snap was misplayed and St. Norbert took over on the Benedictine 8.
David Lox's 3-yard touchdown two plays later gave St. Norbert its first touchdown. The Eagles then fumbled the ensuing kickoff and St. Norbert took over at the Benedictine 10.
John Trinh scored from three yards out two plays later to tie the game at 14-14. Benedictine would answer with an 11-play, 79-yard drive with Jarnagin scrambling from nine yards out with 1:17 left. St. Norbert would get to the Benedictine 11 late in the half but would turn the ball over on downs with two seconds left to trail 21-14 at intermission.
St. Norbert would get a strip sack of Jarnagin and recover at the Benedictine 11 midway through the third quarter, and
Charlie Hietpas' 1-yard run brought St. Norbert to within 21-20 after the extra-point attempt was blocked. The Eagles would mount another long drive, this one going 75 yards over 11 plays, and scored on a Nathan Rillo 3-yard run with 1:35 left in the quarter for a 27-20 lead.
The Green Knights had a 15-play, 57-yard drive stall at the Benedictine 20, and miss a 37-yard field goal. Benedictine responded by converting a third-and-27 on its next drive with a 39-yard touchdown pass from Jarnagin to Holliday. St. Norbert would score on a 25-yard touchdown pass from
Ben Kohl to
Parker Lawrence with 5:51 remaining and trailed 34-27. Benedictine would convert again, this time on a 16-yard touchdown run from Gregory Hoard with 2:01 to go and a two-score lead. The Green Knights would get their final score with 1:09 left on a 12-yard run from Kohl. Benedictine recovered the onside kick.
Benedictine outgained St. Norbert 535-345 in total offense and had 30 first downs to the Green Knights' 23. Kohl completed 26 of 42 passes for 268 yards and also had a team-high 39 rushing yards. Lawrence caught seven passes for 82 yards and one touchdown.
Jarnagin completed 28 of 42 passes for 402 yards and two touchdowns for Benedictine. Holliday caught 11 passes for 124 yards and two scores.
