CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – St. Norbert College faced a pair of Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference foes at the Coe-Cornell Invitational.
The Green Knights fell 3-1 to Gustavus Adolphus College by scores of 22-25, 25-19, 25-14, 25-11 and 3-0 to No. 21-ranked St. Olaf College by scores of 26-24, 25-15, 25-20.
St. Norbert won the opening set against the Gusties, turning a 12-11 deficit into a 16-11 lead behind a pair of
Maddie Kitowski service aces. Gustavus Adolphus came back to tie the set four times, the latest at 21-21, before the Green Knights went on a 4-1 run to take a 1-0 lead. Gustavus Adolphus then built leads in each of the next three seats to claim the win.
The Green Knights had 27 kills against 23 errors in 103 attempts to hit .039 for the match.
Anna Kudick had a team-high eight kills, while
Kirsten Klatt added five.
Keira Ashenfelter had 13 assists. Kitowski had five aces.
Ashenfelter had eight digs, while Kitowski had six. Klatt and
Brooklyn O'Malley had three blocks apiece.
Against St. Olaf, the Green Knights led the opening set 24-23 before the Oles closed out a 1-0 lead with three consecutive points. The second set was tied at 9-9 before St. Olaf pulled away on a 7-2 run. The Green Knights got to within 18-16 in Set 3 before the Oles finished the sweep.
St. Norbert hit .141 in the match, with 27 kills against 13 errors in 99 attempts. Kudick had eight kills, while
Alli Clark added six. Ashenfelter had 19 assists.
Annabel Stevenson had a team-high 10 digs for the Green Knights, with Kitowski adding nine.
Emma Dries had two blocks.
