RIVER FOREST, Ill. - St. Norbert College was swept for the first time this season in a Northern Athletics doubleheader against Concordia University Chicago, falling to a late Cougars comeback 8-7 before being silenced 9-2 in the nightcap in two games at Cougar Field.
The Green Knights (13-9, 3-5 NACC) led 7-3 in the ninth inning in the opening game before Concordia stormed back with five runs, clinching the game with the bases loaded after a hit by pitch.
St. Norbert trailed 1-0 until the fourth inning when Tyler Dean (pictured) hit a solo home run. Dean brought home two more runs in the sixth on a two-run double while Carson Krumrei's sacrifice fly brought home Declan Kane in the same frame to make it 4-1. A Jake Lucas single in the eighth made it 5-1, but the Cougars closed the gap to 5-3. Matt Schuch scored one run in the ninth on a fielder's choice. The Cougars scored five runs in the bottom of the inning to steal a 8-7 lead.
Dean finished the game with four hits and four RBIs, while Will DeBruin had three hits and one RBI. Tyler Murphy had two hits.
Dylan Heier took the loss, pitching one third of the final inning and allowing one run on one hit. Jace Midbon started the afternoon with six strikeouts in 7.2 innings.
In the night cap, St. Norbert took the lead in the third on a Kane sacrifice fly but Concordia scored four runs in each the third and fourth innings to hold a 8-1 advantage. Will Van Laanen scored one run in the seventh with the bases loaded on a Dean walk.
Krumrei had the lone multi-hit game for St. Norbert, recording two hits.
Charlie Gretz took the loss, pitching 3.1 innings with three strikeouts and five walks against seven runs on four hits.
