Green Knights Swept by Scarlet Hawks

DE PERE – St. Norbert College was silenced by Illinois Institute of Technology in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference doubleheader at Van Alstine Field.

The Green Knights (13-13, 3-9 NACC) fell by scores of 12-6 and 10-3.

The Scarlet Hawks took a 3-0 lead in the second inning until a Jake Lucas two-run home run made it 3-2 in the bottom of the frame. Illinois Tech responded with a home run of their own in the fourth which was then rebuked by a Tim Nobrega 2 RBI home run to tie the game 4-4. Matt Shuch gave the Green Knights their first lead of the game after stealing third base and coming home on an error, while Will DeBruin scored on a second error in the same inning to take a 6-4 lead.

The Scarlet Hawks tied the game 6-6 in the sixth and with four runs in the seventh took a big advantage to the final inning where they added two more.

Jake Lucas, Zach Bostrand and Schuch all had two hits.

Jace Midbon took the loss, pitching six innings with two strikeouts and two walks against 10 runs on 10 hits.

In the nightcap, Will DeBruin (pictured) gave St. Norbert a 1-0 in the first with a solo shot, but went on to trail 9-1 after four innings. Nobrega put the Green Knights on the board once again in the fifth, while a Jake Lucas home run in the sixth made it 9-3 before Illinois Tech added one more run in the seventh.

Charlie Gretz took the loss, pitching 1.1 innings and allowing seven runs on six hits, none of which were earned.
