St. Norbert Holds Off Falcons

DE PERE – St. Norbert College picked up an important 91-79 win over Concordia University Wisconsin in the race for the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference regular-season championship at Mulva Family Fitness and Sports Center.

The Green Knights (16-5, 13-1 NACC) shot over 50 percent from the floor overall and over 45 percent from three as St. Norbert remained in control for the majority of the contest.

The two teams traded blows in the first half, with the Green Knights finding the mark from range thanks to several makes from Cole Uhlenbrauck (pictured). Trailing 28-27 with just over 5:30 reamining in the first half, a pair of treys from Jaeden Grade and Ryan Cox made it 35-28 before six points from Mason Freiburger and a 3-pointer from Uhlenbrauck in the final two minutes gave St. Norbert a 44-37 advantage at halftime.

A three from Cox early in the second half gave St. Norbert a 10-point lead before a 12-3 run from the Falcons made it 68-66 with 8:21 remaining.

Free throws from Cox and Connor Pytleski gave some space for St. Norbert down the stretch, with defensive stops and work in the paint from Freiburger and Will Stuckey regaining a double-digit lead for St. Norbert, 83-73.

Eight free throw makes in the final 75 seconds put the game out of reach for the Falcons.

The Green Knights shot 52.5 percent from the floor (31-for-59). Uhlenbrauck and Freiburger each had 21 points, while Stuckey had 16. Cox added 12 points.

Concordia Wisconsin shot 48.1 percent from the floor (25-for-52). Casey Verhagen had a team-high 16 points for the Falcons.
