DE PERE - St. Norbert College overcame a sluggish first half and rallied in the final 20 minutes to post a 66-59 win over Marian University in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference game at Mulva Family Fitness & Sports Center.
The Green Knights (9-4, 6-0 NACC) spotted Marian (7-6, 4-2 NACC) an 11-0 lead in the first five minutes of the game and had to battle back. St. Norbert trailed 20-9 with 6:35 left in the first half and still trailed 33-21 with 2:10 left before baskets by
Will Stuckey and
Cam Lathos (pictured) cut the deficit to 31-26 at halftime.
St. Norbert opened the second half on an 8-0 run to take its first lead of the game, with a pair of
Mason Freiburger baskets getting the Green Knights out front 34-31 with 16:09 left. Marian pushed back, going on an 11-4 run to take a 44-38 lead with 12:34 to go. The Green Knights trailed 46-42 until
Jaeden Grade splashed a 3-pointer at 10:40 and a Lathos' jumper on the next trip down put the host ahead for good.
The Sabres trailed 51-48 when Stuckey made a clutch trey from the near corner with 7:50 left, igniting a 7-0 run finished by hoops from Lathos and
Charlie Geske for a 58-48 edge with 6:16 to go. Lathos hit a 3 with 5:10 left for a 63-50 lead and the Green Knights held off the Sabres the rest of the way.
St. Norbert shot 44.8 percent (26-for-58) from the floor but was 17-for-33 (51.5 percent) in the second half. The Green Knights, who were outrebounded 19-12 in the first half, held a 34-33 edge on the glass overall. Lathos posted a career-high 21 points, while Stuckey added 11 points. Grade and
Connor Pytleski had nine points apiece.
Marian shot 44.0 percent (22-for-50) from the floor. Marvin Haslett led the Sabres with 16 points off the bench, while Derek Lindert added 14 points.
