RIVER FOREST, Ill. – St. Norbert College recovered from a chilly shooting start and went on to post a 64-54 win over Dominican University in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference game at Igini Sports Forum.
The Green Knights (12-4, 9-0 NACC) remained in first place by one game over Aurora University midway through the conference schedule. Aurora topped Milwaukee School of Engineering to snap a deadlock for second place.
St. Norbert held Dominican scoreless for the game's first six-plus minutes but had build just an 8-0 lead in doing so. The Green Knights led 16-5 midway through the first half after a
Ryan Brown (pictured) 3-pointer but the Stars would slowly work their way back into the game and tie it 25-25 at halftime.
The Green Knights opened the second half on a 7-0 to take control, with a pair of
Mason Freiburger baskets sandwiched around a
Ryan Cox conventional three-point play. Dominican would get to within 41-38 with 11:32 left, but a quick 7-0 run on a pair of Freiburger hoops bracketing a Brown trey pushed the lead to 48-38 with 9:56 left. St. Norbert would lead 60-47 with 4:37 left and the Stars would get no closer than seven points the rest of the way.
St. Norbert shot 46.4 percent (26-for-56) from the floor in the second half, including 16-for-28 (57.1 percent) in the second half. Freiburger scored a career-high 21 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for a double-double. Brown netted a career-high 14 points, while
Connor Pytleski added 11 points.
Dominican shot 31.4 percent (16-for-51) from the floor. Frank Paszkowski and Elijah Daugherty led the Stars with 16 points apiece.
