DE PERE – St. Norbert College opened its Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference slate with three points, taking down Marian University 2-0 at Schneider Stadium.
The Green Knights (1-5) scored a goal in each half and held the Sabres in check in the shutout win. Following two saves from Taylor Wilson, the Green Knights got on the board with Abigail Rabideau's (pictured) first goal of the season, coming off a free kick and the ball bouncing off several Marian defenders before the forward tapped it in across the line to make it 1-0 at 15:11.
Addie Schneider nearly put the Green Knights second goal away at 19:06, with her headed attempt hitting off the left woodwork and narrowly missing the target. Schneider and Michelle Piro forced two further saves from Marian in the first half.
Piro scored five minutes after halftime to make it 2-0 at 50:10, with an assist coming from Kaelei Garrity. Paige Westerman almost scored a third moments later after escaping multiple defenders on the left wing before having her shot parried away.
The Sabres hit the woodwork at 59:36 in what turned out to be their best attempt on goal the remainder of the game.
St. Norbert outshot Marian 12-6, with six shots hitting on target. Wilson made four saves, all of which came in the first half.
The Green Knights also outgained Marian in corners 3-1.
