MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - St. Norbert College couldn't overcome a two-goal deficit on the road at No. 2 Augsburg University, concluding its season in a 4-2 NCAA Division III Quarterfinal loss on the road at Ed Saugestad Rink.
The Green Knights (25-5-1), who won their first ever NCAA Tournament game last week at Gustavus Adolphus College, couldn't find the opportunities they had in the previous round, and fell behind by two goals in the second period.
After a scoreless first period, Augsburg took the lead at 1:29 in the second period and followed it up with a second just over a minute later on a power play to take a 2-0 lead. The Green Knights fought back and finally found the back of the net from Tristan Wicklund, with senior sisters Courtnie Hogan and Natalie Hogan providing the assists.
The Auggies scored two more goals before the second intermission, scoring at 13:02 and 14:42 to take a 4-1 advantage.
The Green Knights weren't quite done after trailing by three goals, getting a late goal in the third period from Ava Anick on a St. Norbert power play at 18:02 in the third period off an assist from Abby Pieper to make it nervy for the Augsburg crowd, but it would be the closest St. Norbert got to the lead in the following two minutes.
St. Norbert was narrowly outshot by Augsburg 33-32. Keira Markell made 29 saves for the Green Knights, while Kayla Simonson made 30 saves for Augsburg.
St. Norbert went 1-for-4 on the power play, while Augsburg was 1-for-5.
