DE PERE - St. Norbert College rallied from a pair of deficits and went on to claim a 5-3 win over Lake Forest College to sweep a Northern Collegiate Hockey Association series at Resch Olympic Pavilion.
The Green Knights (18-4-1, 14-1-1), ranked No. 11 in the USCHO.com Division III Poll, now lead second-place Adrian College by five points with two games (six points) remaining. St. Norbert needs one win in next weekend's series against Lawrence University to win its first NCHA regular-season championship and with it the Kronschnabel Cup.
St. Norbert fell behind 2-0 in the first period after the Foresters got on the board with a Tallulah Bryant goal at 3:58 and a Macy Gehrke marker at 11:05. The Green Knights pushed back early in the second period when
Kelsey Ross (pictured) scored just 44 seconds into the frame.
Lexi Bonfe then knotted things up at with a goal while she was being hooked at 4:21. The game would head into second intermission still tied 2-2.
Lake Forest took another lead when Gehrke scored again, this time at 7:32 of the third period. St. Norbert didn't take long to respond, when
Natalie Hogan took a pass from below the goal line and directed it home at 8:48. The Green Knights took the lead at 11:34 when
Briar Charchenko stuffed the puck into the goal for a 4-3 lead. St. Norbert salted the game away when Ross scored an empty-net goal at 19:27.
Sydney Zurawik posted three assists for three points. Ross had two goals for two points, while Hogan and Bonfe each had one goal and one assist for two points.
St. Norbert outshot Lake Forest 28-23, including 15-5 in the decisive third period.
Ashley Ommen made 20 saves for the Green Knights, while Donna Fowler turned away 23 shots for the Foresters.
St. Norbert was 0-for-1 on the power play, while Lake Forest was 0-for-3.
