DE PERE – St. Norbert College clinched a share of the regular season Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference title at Mulva Family Fitness and Sports Center in a 61-41 win over Milwaukee School of Engineering.
The Green Knights (20-4, 15-1) avenged their only conference loss from earlier this season with a dominant performance on senior day. Senior Emma Morrisey (pictured), in one of her final career games with the Green Knights, surpassed 1,000 career points in the second quarter off a free throw to put St. Norbert up 33-15.
The Green Knights started the first quarter on a 15-6 run, with Taylor Thiry and Macey Mercer each grabbing four points in the early going. A 3-pointer from Casey Jepson gave St. Norbert a 22-6 lead with 24 seconds left in the first quarter. In the final five minutes of the opening quarter, St. Norbert allowed just two points.
St. Norbert extended its lead to nearly 20 by halftime, with Morrisey, Thiry and Marnie Kahl making 5-of-5 in the final 5:19 of the first half to take a 36-18 lead into the break.
Although a slow second period allowed the Raiders to get within 12 points in the third quarter, an 8-0 run from Thiry prevented the Raiders from getting any closer to the lead.
The Green Knight defense was perhaps the best it had been all season, allowing no more than four field goals in each quarter.
St. Norbert shot 51.1 percent from the floor (24-for-47). Thiry led with 23 points and eight rebounds. Mercer had nine points while Morrisey ended her final regular season game with eight.
St. Norbert outrebounded the Raiders 36-26.
MSOE shot 29.8 percent from the floor (14-for-47). Lana Kerley and Dani Mendez each had 10 points for the Raiders.
St. Norbert will be the number one seed in the NACC tournament thanks to a tiebreaker over Wisconsin Lutheran College. The Green Knights will face Lakeland University in a quarterfinal on Tuesday, February 25 at 7 p.m. at Mulva Family Fitness and Sports Center.
