Green Knights Roll In Regular-Season Finale

DE PERE - St. Norbert College cranked up the offense in its regular-season finale, posting an 8-2 win over Lawrence University in a Northern Collegiate Hockey Association game at Cornerstone Community Center.

The Green Knights (20-5, 15-3 NCHA), ranked No. 6 in the USCHO.com Division III Poll, clinched the No. 2 seeding for the NCHA Harris Cup Playoffs. St. Norbert will host Concordia University Wisconsin at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Feb. 21-22.

St. Norbert needed just 38 seconds to get on the scoreboard when Bryan Gilman (pictured) scored his first goal of the season. Lawrence's Max Wigfield scored at 3:32, but the Green Knights promptly scored off the ensuing faceoff when Liam Fraser scored to put St. Norbert ahead for good. Lawrence committed a major penalty at 14:36 and St. Norbert took advantage by scoring twice on the power play. Ethan Byrne scored at 16:42 and Logan Dombrowsky finished on a tough angle on the goal line at 19:33 for a 4-1 lead.

The Green Knights again wasted little time to score opening the second period, when Cooper Morris scored his first career goal just eight seconds in. The goal is the quickest goal to open a period in St. Norbert history, breaking the old record of Ryan Wempe's marker 10 seconds into the third period in a 2002 NCHA Peters Cup Playoffs double-overtime semifinal game against UW-River Falls.

St. Norbert put the game well out of reach when Fraser scored again with a power-play goal at 3:22 of the second, followed by Gilman's second goal of the game at 4:32. Lawrence scored a 4-on-3 power-play goal on a score by Cory Checco at 5:08 of the second. Jack Hillman scored at 16:49 of the period to close out the scoring.

The Green Knights had five multi-point scorers. Fraser finished with two goals and two assists for four points. Dombrowsky had one goal and two assists for three points. Carter Hottmann and Brock Baker each had three assists for three points, while Gilman finished with two goals for two points.

St. Norbert outshot Lawrence 47-19. Hunter Garvey made nine saves in net for the firs two periods for the Green Knights. Vaughn Makar made five stops in the first 10:11 of the third period, while Collin Lemanski made his collegiate debut with three saves in the final 9:49.

St. Norbert finished 3-for-7 on the power play, while Lawrence ended 1-for-4.
