St. Norbert Hangs On in Aloha State

HONOLULU, Hawaii – St. Norbert College broke a late tie in the fourth quarter against Whitworth University in a 59-49 win in a non-conference game at Hawaii Pacific University.

The Green Knights (4-4) won the first of two games in the Aloha State thanks to a 12-2 run in the final two minutes and change led by senior Taylor Thiry's (pictured) 28 points in paradise.

St. Norbert started the game on a 7-0 run, not allowing a Whitworth field goal until 3:20 in the first quarter. A layup from Oakley Witteck gave the Green Knights a 12-6 lead going into the second quarter. Kat Miller gave St. Norbert a 15-6 lead in the middle of the second quarter, but the Pirates slowly got their way back into the game and trailed by just one point going into the half.

In a 8-0 run to start the third quarter, Thiry added six points on three attempts with one assist to give St. Norbert a 32-23 lead. The Green Knights still held on to the lead through the entire quarter, but back-to-back 3-pointers from the Pirates made it a 40-38 game going into the final 10 minutes.

Whitworth tied the game at 44-44 thanks to a three, but another bucket from Thiry quickly gave the Green Knights the lead once again. Another three from Whitworth's Ashlyn Peterson tied it for as second time in the quarter at 47-47, but thanks to a six more points from Thiry in a 12-2 run in the final 2:50, St. Norbert came out unscathed with a victory.

The Green Knights shot 37.5 percent from the floor (24-for-64). Thiry added eight rebounds and four assists with her season-high 28 points, while Marnie Kahl had 10 points and eight rebounds. Witteck had six points while Rose Hahn had five.

Whitworth shot 28.3 percent from the floor (17-for-60). Peterson finished with 20 points while CC Size had 10 points and seven boards.
