EAU CLAIRE - St. Norbert College fell behind in the second period and couldn't recover in a 4-2 loss to UW-Eau Claire in a non-conference game at Hobbs Ice Arena.
The Green Knights (8-3) trailed 3-1 after two periods and got to within a goal in the third period but did not get any closer in settling for a split in the home-and-home series with the Blugolds (4-3-1).
Eau Claire drew first blood early when Luke Lavery scored 1:29 into the game, a marker that would hold up through the rest of the first period.
The Green Knights got to even at 1-1 when
Ethan Byrne scored at 8:50 of the second period for his fourth goal of the season. Lavery struck moments later to retake the lead, scoring at 10:41. Eau Claire got a big goal from Kade Peterson at 15:59 of the second period for a 3-1 advantage.
Calvin Hanson (pictured) scored at 6:05 of the third period to bring the Green Knights to within 3-2, but Eau Claire held off the Green Knights the rest of the way and locked up the win on a Dayne Hoyord goal at 18:29.
St. Norbert outshot Eau Claire 31-22, but was 0-for-3 on the power play while Eau Claire was 0-for-2.
Hunter Garvey made 18 saves for the Green Knights, while Max Gutjahr turned away 29 shots for the Blugolds.
