GENEVA, Ill. - St. Norbert College couldn't break through on the scoreboard and eventually dropped a 3-0 decision to Aurora University in the first leg of a two-game Northern Collegiate Hockey Association series at Fox Valley Ice Arena.
The No. 3-ranked Green Knights (6-2, 4-1 NCHA) battled the No. 2-ranked Spartans (7-0, 5-0) through a scoreless first period. St. Norbert had the period's only power play.
Aurora broke through with a power-play goal by Chase Broda at the 4:47 mark of the second period. That goal would hold up all the way into the middle of the third period, when Jake Code scored unassisted at 11:40. Jakson Kirk put the game out of reach with a goal at 18:01 of the third period.
St. Norbert came up empty on four power-play opportunities, including two in the third period. Aurora was 1-for-4.
Aurora outshot St. Norbert 36-26.
Hunter Garvey made 33 saves for the Green Knights, while Matt O'Donnell made all 26 stops to get the shutout for the Spartans.
