DE PERE – It was a night for the power play in St. Norbert College's season opener against Gustavus Adolphus College, with Green Knights fell to the Gusties 3-2 in a non-conference game at Resch Olympic Pavilion.
The Green Knights (0-1) trailed by two goals in the second period before rallying to tie in the third period before the Gusties retook a one-goal lead with less than 15 minutes remaining. All five goals in the game were scored on the power play.
Gustavus scored at 8:04 in the first before adding another at 14:16 in the second frame. Ava Anick sniped in St. Norbert's first goal of the season at 16:59 in the second with assists coming from Emma Stebbeds and Grace Wittkopf. Sydney Zurawik (pictured) then made it 2-2 shortly into the third period at 2:21 with helpers from Annalee Holzer and Maddie Donnelly, but a Gusties goal from McKenzie Perry at 6:23 gave the visitors a 3-2 lead they held till the end of the game.
St. Norbert was outshot 42-11. Keira Markell had a busy night in goal, turning away 39 shots. Lily Timmons made nine saves for Gustavus Adolphus.
St. Norbert was 2-for-5 on the power play while the Gusties went 3-for-8.
