DE PERE - St. Norbert College and Minnesota State University skated to a 5-5 tie in an exhibition game at Cornerstone Community Center.
The Green Knights (12-3), ranked No. 4 in the USCHO.com Division III Poll, and Mavericks (14-4-2), ranked No. 12 in the USCHO.com Division I Poll, squared off in a matchup that included controlled situations. Both teams worked on multiple special-teams situations as well as ample 5-on-5 time.
St. Norbert rallied from deficits of 4-1 and 5-2 to forge the stalemate.
Minnesota State got the early jump when Brett Moravec scored on a shorthanded breakaway just 3:56 into the game. The Mavericks added to their lead when they scored a goal on a predetermined power play with Adam Eisele converting at 9:02. St. Norbert got a goal back when
Ethan Byrne scored even strength at 13:12. Minnesota State pushed out to a 3-1 lead at 19:27 of the period with an empty-net goal by Brian Carrabes, with St. Norbert working on a 6-on-5 situation.
The Mavericks scored even strength at 4:37 of the second period on a marker by Evan Murr. St. Norbert got to within two when
Calvin Hanson scored even strength at 8:08. Minnesota State went ahead 5-2 at 14:49 when Eisele scored on a 3-on-1 breakaway while on a predetermined 5-on-3 power play. The Green Knights trailed 5-3 at second intermission after

St. Norbert made things interesting when
Bryan Gilman rifled a wrist shot past Minnesota State's No. 1 goaltender, Alex Tracy, at 1:55, to cut the deficit to 5-4. Both teams then skated 3-on-3 for the final five minutes of the game.
