DE PERE – St. Norbert College took Adrian College to the limit in a heavyweight Northern Collegiate Hockey Association clash but would fall just short in overtime 2-1 at Resch Olympic Pavilion.
The Green Knights (16-4, 12-1 NCHA), ranked No. 13 in the USCHO.com Division III poll, fought back from a goal down in the second period and would come close on multiple occasions in the third period and overtime but could not find the back of the net. Despite the loss, the Green Knights secured a first-round home series for the NCHA playoffs next month.
After the Bulldogs took the lead at 12:06 in the second period, Natalie Hogan (pictured) would equalize at 18:25 with assists from Claire Healy and Lexi Bonfe. Freshman goaltender Keira Markell had a remarkable outing in the final two periods, making several stops on the goal line. In total, she stopped 33 shots, a season-high for the freshman.
With the defensive stand late in the third period, the Green Knights had a couple of close opportunities in the extra period before Adrian found a winner at 2:21.
St. Norbert was outshot by Adrian 35-24. Bulldogs' keeper Annie Gilbert made 23 saves. Emma Simon scored both goals for Adrian.
St. Norbert went 0-for-2 on the power play, while the Bulldogs went 0-for-3.
