DE PERE – St. Norbert College had a tough second day of the Second Annual Chick-fil-A Invitational at Mulva Sports Center.
The Green Knights dropped a pair of 3-0 decisions to Macalester College and Carroll University. St. Norbert fell to Macalester 25-23, 25-22, 25-22 and then to Carroll 25-21, 25-23, 25-18.
Against Macalester, St. Norbert never held the lead in Set 1, although it did get to within 23-22 and 24-23 but couldn't get over the hump. The Green Knights led 17-16 in Set 2 but a 4-0 Macalester run swung momentum the Scots' way. The third set was tied 22-22 before a 3-0 run by Macalester sealed the win.
St. Norbert hit .090 in the match, with 34 kills against 22 errors in 134 attempts.
Heidi Colburn registered 32 assists, putting her over the 1,000 career assists milestone.
Lauren Borchardt, who was named to the All-Tournament Team, had a pair of service aces.
Claire Leynse had 20 digs, while Colburn added 10.
Anna Kudick,
Mari Szews and
Paige Olson all had three blocks each.
Against Carroll, St. Norbert led 15-14 in Set 1 before Carroll went on a 7-0 run to take control of the stanza. The Green Knights held a 21-19 in Set 2 before the Pioneers took a 23-21 lead. St. Norbert rallied to knot the score at 23-23 before Carroll scored the last two points. The third set saw a 12-12 tie before Carroll went on a 6-0 run.
St. Norbert hit .109 in the match, with 27 kills against 12 errors in 137 attempts.
Keira Ashenfelter had 13 assists. Leynse and
Maleigha Kovalaske had two service aces apiece.
Leynse had 17 digs, with
Alyssa Mills added 15. Szews and
Alli Clark had three blocks apiece.
