Green Knights Charge Past Eagles With Two Second-Half Goals

DE PERE – St. Norbert College won their second conference game this week, passing by Benedictine University 3-1 with two second-half goals from Oakley Witteck and Haley Leadingham.

The Green Knights were unexpectedly stunned just three minutes into the first half, being caught off guard from a chip shot from the Eagles Kailyn Knudson.

Following a strong press from Abby Thompson and Lexi Fredenhagen, who contributed three shots after conceding, the Green Knights got on the board ten minutes after conceding following a strong solo effort from Witteck.

While St. Norbert would be caught offsides several times in the last 15 minutes, Thompson and Maddie Dudan were able to force three saves from Benedictine keeper Katherine Prochnow just before the whistle. The three shots added to a shot tally that would only continue to grow for St. Norbert.

The Green Knights finally took the lead they were looking for, with Hayley Leadingham scoring in her second straight game to take a 2-1 lead at 51:44.

Aleah Reesman, who scored a brace and provided one assist in the win over Lakeland on Wednesday, added a sixth point to her tally this week, assisting Witteck for a brace of her own at 66:19 to put Benedictine away.

Witteck, Leadingham and Fredenhagen all had two shots on goal in the win, which contributed to the 23 shots the Green Knights recorded.

The Green Knights had six corners in the game while also conceding none to the Eagles.

Taylor Wilson only had to make one save on a quiet afternoon between the posts.

Following this week's results, the Green Knights are in a four-way tie for first place in the NACC. The team will head to the greater Chicago area to face Lake Forest College on Monday, before returning to conference play against Marian in Fond Du Lac on Wednesday.
