VERONA - St. Norbert College had its season come to a close with a pair of losses to Edgewood College by scores of 17-16 in eight innings and 12-5 in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference doubleheader at Stampfl Field.
The opener, scheduled for seven innings, started innocently enough with Edgewood holding a 1-0 run through three innings after a first-inning run. St. Norbert broke through with a four-run fourth inning, scoring two on a
Zach Bostrand two-run double.
A.J. Kisting added an RBI single and
Huck Sprong a sacrifice fly.
Edgewood scored once in its half of the fourth and St. Norbert answered on a
Trevor Reinhardt solo home run in the fifth. Edgewood scored once again in the fifth and the Green Knights got it back with a Sprong solo home run in the sixth. The Eagles rebounded to score six runs in the bottom of the sixth to take a 9-6 lead into the seventh inning.
St. Norbert scored six runs in the top of the seventh to take a 12-9 lead.
Matt Perry drove in a run with a single and
Will DeBruin forced in a run with a walk. Bostrand had a sacrifice fly and Kisting added another RBI single. Sprong had a two-run single to complete the uprising. Edgewood answered with three runs in the bottom of the seventh and left the bases loaded with the game tied 12-12.
The Green Knights scored four times in the top of the eighth inning. Kisting had a two-run single with a third run coming home on an outfield error on the play.
Sebastian Rublis had an RBI single to bring home Kisting for a 16-12 lead. Edgewood came again, scoring five runs in the bottom of the inning without an out being recorded to take a 17-16 win.
Kisting was 3-for-4 with two runs scored and four runs batted in. Sprong was 2-for-3 with one run scored and four runs batted in. Bostrand had three runs batted in.
In the nightcap, Edgewood scored twice in the first inning. The Green Knights got a pair of runs in the third inning when
Jaden Holgado tripled to bring in a run and scored on an error. The Eagles scored twice in the third inning to retake the lead at 4-2. St. Norbert tied it at 4-4 in the fourth inning on a DeBruin solo home run and a
Matt Schuch RBI single. Edgewood would again score two runs in the fourth inning to pull ahead 6-4.
St. Norbert got a run in the fifth inning when Holgado tripled and later scored on a wild pitch. But Edgewood scored six runs in the bottom of the fifth to pull away and take control.
Holgado was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two triples. DeBruin was 2-for-3.
