DE PERE - St. Norbert College wrapped up its 2024 season on a positive note with a 3-1 win over Rockford University in its season finale in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference match at Mulva Family Fitness & Sports Center.
The Green Knights, who finished the season 10-17, topped the Regents 25-22, 25-12, 24-26, 25-10.
St. Norbert trailed 10-7 in Set 1 before going on a 12-1 run to take a 19-11 lead, with
Owen Knezevich posting three kills during the streak. Rockford would go on an 11-4 run to get back to within 23-22 before the Green Knights took a 1-0 lead on a Regents' service error and
Jackson Corcoran's kill. The Green Knights never trailed in Set 2, seeing a 10-9 lead balloon into an 18-10 advantage after an 8-1 skein.
Barry Applewhite's kill finished off the set for a 2-0 lead.
The Green Knights led 15-8 in Set 3 before Rockford rallied to within 16-15. St. Norbert held the lead and had match point at 24-23 before the Regents scored three-straight points to get to within 2-1. St. Norbert wasted little time taking control in Set 4, jumping out to a 14-5 lead. The Green Knights had 15 kills against three errors in 28 swings in the fourth set to close out the win.
St. Norbert hit .276 for the match, with 53 kills and 19 errors in 123 attempts. Corcoran posted 14 kills, one off his career high.
Kade Nelson totaled 11 kills in 16 attempts, while Applewhite had seven kills in 10 attempts. Nelson and Applewhite combined in the middle for 18 kills in 26 attempts with no errors.
Michael Whitney directed the attack with 31 assists.
Corcoran finished with a double-double added 13 digs.
Ryan Conway had 10 digs. Applewhite had four blocks, while Whitney and Corcoran had three apiece.
Rockford finished with a hitting percentage of .078, with 36 kills against 26 errors in 128 attempts. Nathan Vana had a team-high 11 kills.
