FOND DU LAC - St. Norbert College did not generate much offensively and was subsequently swept by Marian University by scores of 2-0 and 10-4 in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference doubleheader at Herr-Baker Field.
The Green Knights had two hits in the opener - a first-inning single by
Jaden Holgado and a seventh-inning safety by
Levi Crosswell. Marian scored unearned runs in the third and sixth innings for the only tallies in a game that lasted just 1 hour 20 minutes.
Jace Midbon took the hard-luck loss, allowing six hits with one walk and two strikeouts in a complete-game effort.
In the nightcap, Marian jumped out to an early lead with a four-run first inning. The Green Knights got a run back in the second inning on
Devin Geary's RBI groundout to score
Huck Sprong. The Sabres scored one in the third, two in the fourth and two in the sixth to take a 9-1 lead.
St. Norbert scored three times in the seventh inning. Holgado was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to score
Carson Krumrei.
Trevor Reinhardt then had an RBI grounder to bring home
Matt Schuch.
Will DeBruin's sacrifice fly plated Geary to cut the deficit to 9-4. Marian added a tack-on run in the eighth inning to finish out the scoring.
Geary was 2-for-4 to lead the Green Knights at the plate in Game 2, while Reinhardt added a double.
Matt Perry took the loss, allowing 10 hits and seven runs in 3 2/3 innings pitched.
