DE PERE - St. Norbert College continued Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference play with a 3-1 loss to Illinois Institute of Technology at Mulva Family Fitness & Sports Center.
The Green Knights (8-9, 1-4 NACC) fell to the Scarlet Hawks (6-10, 2-1) by scores of 25-21, 25-15, 25-27, 25-18.
St. Norbert had 17 kills in the first set but had a tough time slowing down Illinois Tech, which had 18 kills against one error to pull away from a 12-12 tie and hold the lead the rest of the way. The Scarlet Hawks continued their hitting with 16 kills and no errors in the second set to lead from start to finish in building a 2-0 match lead.
The third set featured nine ties and four lead changes. Illinois Tech led 19-14 before St. Norbert went on a late charge, going on a 6-1 run to knot the set at 20-20. The Scarlet Hawks too leads of 23-21 and 24-23 to reach match point, but committed a service error to force a deuce at 24-24. Following a St. Norbert service error,
Mason Werner posted a kill,
Zach Hanse served an ace and Werner had another kill to bring St. Norbert to within 2-1.
The fourth set was tied at 4-4 before Illinois Tech went on a 7-2 run to take control at 13-6. St. Norbert would get to within 20-15 but would get no closer.
St. Norbert hit .167 for the match, with 48 kills and 24 errors in 144 attempts. Werner led the Green Knights with 13 kills, while
Kaden Kornaus added seven and
Bennett Kornaus six.
Michael Whitney had 37 assists.
Kaden Kornaus finished with 16 digs, with
Ryan Conway adding eight.
Illinois Tech hit .364 for the match, with 54 kills against 11 errrors in 115 swings. Riley Laite had a match-high 17 kills.
