DE PERE - St. Norbert College extended its winning streak to eight games with a 56-32 win over Alverno College in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference game at Mulva Family Fitness & Sports Center.
The Green Knights (14-9, 11-3 NACC) used a big first quarter to take control against the Inferno. Alverno scored the opening points of the game but St. Norbert then countered on a 19-2 run to take a 19-4 lead.
Taylor Thiry had a conventional three-point play at the 6:41 mark to give St. Norbert a 9-2 lead, while
Oakley Witteck and
Casey Jepson scored on consecutive possessions for the 15-point advantage with 2:05 left in the quarter. A pair of Witteck free throws gave the Green Knights a 22-6 lead at the first quarter break.
St. Norbert outscored Alverno 11-1 in the second quarter.
Emma Morrisey's 3-pointer put St. Norbert ahead 31-7 with 2:40 left, while
Avery Bierowski split a pair of free throws late in the stanza for a 33-7 halftime lead.
The Green Knights continued to pull away in the third quarter. Another Morrisey 3-pointer gave St. Norbert a 45-9 lead with 4:34 left in the quarter. The Green Knights opened their largest lead of the game at 51-11 after a pair of Witteck free throws with 49 seconds left in the period. St. Norbert led 51-13 after three quarters.
St. Norbert shot 33.3 percent (21-for-63) from the floor and held a 50-37 rebounding edge. Morrisey finished with 14 points, while Thiry had 11 points and seven rebounds. A total of 11 different Green Knights scored.
Alverno shot 24.1 percent (13-for-54) from the floor. Shiauna Nixon-Boyd led the Inferno with 10 points.
