St. Norbert Turned Away In NACC Tourney Championship

MILWAUKEE - St. Norbert College was turned away in its bid to reach the NCAA Division III Tournament for the second consecutive year with a 66-42 loss to Wisconsin Lutheran College in the championship game of the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Tournament at Time of Grace Center.

The Green Knights (18-10) had a 12-game winning streak snapped, while the Warriors (23-4) carry an 18-game victory skein into the NCAA Tournament as the NACC's automatic qualifier.

St. Norbert and Wisconsin Lutheran traded points in the early going with the game tied at 4-4 before the Warriors went on a 7-2 run to take an 11-6 lead. The Green Knights got baskets from Emma Morrisey and Chloe Gruszynski to cut it to 11-10 with 2:50 left in the first quarter, but Wisconsin Lutheran scored the last five points to take a 16-10 lead at the end of the period.

Wisconsin Lutheran continued what was part of an overall 12-0 run by scoring the first seven points of the second quarter to build a 23-10 lead. Macey Mercer's 3-pointer just before the halftime buzzer brought the Green Knights to within 29-18 at intermission.

St. Norbert got to within nine points at 36-27 after a Morrisey basket with 3:58 left in the third quarter, but the Warriors boosted the lead back to 42-29 at the final quarter break. The Green Knights would get no closer than 11 points the rest of the way.

The Green Knights shot 39.5 percent (17-for-43) from the floor. Morrisey was the lone Green Knights to tally double figures with 13 points.

Taylor Thiry and Casey Jepson were named to the All-Tournament Team.

Wisconsin Lutheran shot 50 percent (24-for-48) from thef loor. Sam Leisemann led the Warriors with 20 points.
