FOND DU LAC - St. Norbert College fell behind early and faced an uphill battle all afternoon as the Green Knights lost a 63-60 decision at Marian University in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference game at Sadoff Gymnasium.
The Green Knights (20-5, 15-3) fell behind 13-2 at the start and trailed 14-4 before going on a 10-0 run to tie it at 14-14 with 8:07 left in the first half. Marian (5-20, 5-13) responded with a 10-0 run of its own to take a 24-14 lead at the 4:15 mark. The Sabres took a 29-21 lead into halftime.
Marian led by as many as 11 points early in the second half. The Green Knights got to within one point four times before finally taking a 60-59 lead on a
Carter Gebler jumper with 40 seconds to go. Marian then retook the lead 20 seconds later on a pair of Tavaris McCullough free throws. St. Norbert then missed a shot, got the rebound, missed two free throws, got a second offensive rebound and missed a late shot with 2 seconds left. Marian then made two free throws to seal the win.
St. Norbert shot 46.8 percent (22-for-47) from the floor but was a costly 13-for-23 (56.5 percent) at the free-throw line.
Jamison Nickolai had 18 points and 10 rebounds,
Evan Glaser 15 points,
Aidan Harrington 11 points and Gebler 10 points.
Marian shot 47.8 percent (22-for-46) from the floor. Sam Gingras led the Sabres with 15 points.
