St. Norbert Wins NACC Opener at Wisconsin Lutheran

MILWAUKEE – St. Norbert College opened Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference play with a 3-0 win over Wisconsin Lutheran College before a spirited home crowd at Time of Grace Center.
 
The Green Knights (7-4, 1-0 NACC) topped the Warriors 25-23, 25-20, 25-22.
 
St. Norbert jumped out to a 16-10 lead in Set 1 before the Warriors came back with a 7-1 run to tie it at 17-17. The Green Knights would take a 22-19 lead before Wisconsin Lutheran came again to tie it at 22-22. Mason Werner helped the Green Knights close out the set with two kills in the last three points, with Owen Knezevich getting the other kill in the closing run.
 
The Green Knights fell behind 11-5 to open Set 2 after the Warriors went on a 7-0 run. St. Norbert would respond with a 7-2 run to get back to within 13-12 before eventually tying the set 16-16. The Green Knights eventually built a 22-18 lead and went ahead 2-0 when Werner had kills on the last two points.
 
Wisconsin Lutheran took an early 4-3 lead in Set 3 before an 8-1 Green Knights run gave the visitor an 11-5 lead. St. Norbert led 14-7 before the Warriors went on a 5-1 run to get to within 15-12. Wisconsin Lutheran got to within 19-17 but would get no closer. Kaden Kornaus and Bennett Kornaus had kills for the Green Knights' final two points.
 
St. Norbert hit .306 for the match, with 46 kills against 13 errors in 108 attempts. Kaden Kornaus finished with 15 kills, while Werner had eight kills in two sets and Knezevich eight kills in three sets. Michael Whitney posted 34 assists.
 
Jackson Corcoran had nine digs, while Ryan Conway added eight and Kaden Kornaus seven. Whitney finished with two blocks.
 
Wisconsin Lutheran hit .265 with 41 kills against 14 errors in 102 attempts. James Biedenbender led the Warriors with 12 kills.
