Green Knights Settle For Series Split

DE PERE - St. Norbert College couldn't get untracked offensively and ended up dropping a 4-0 decision to Trine University to split a Northern Collegiate Hockey Association series at Cornerstone Community Center.

The Green Knights (12-1, 7-1 NCHA), ranked No. 2 in the USCHO.com Division III Poll, won the series opener 2-1 Friday over the Thunder (10-1-1, 6-1-1).

St. Norbert had a five-minute major power play but did not score before the man advantage ended with a minute left after a penalty of its own. Trine capitalized with a 4-on-4 goal by Josh Wright at 12:26 of the first period. The Thunder then went on the power play and scored a goal on the man advantage by Sean Henry at 13:31.

Trine was able to keep its 2-0 lead until scoring an empty-net goal by Alexander Babich with 8.6 seconds left and another goal by Brendan Hill as time expired.

St. Norbert outshot Trine 29-20 but the Thunder also blocked a whopping 27 other shots that never made it to goaltender Cristian Wong-Ramos, who made all 29 stops in the shutout. Hunter Garvey made 25 saves for the Green Knights.

St. Norbert was 0-for-6 on the power play, while Trine was 1-for-2.
