DE PERE - St. Norbert College registered some new entries in its football record book during a 55-13 rout of Lakeland University in a penalty-marred Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference game at Schneider Stadium.
Senior running back
Patrick Oden posted 216 rushing yards on 30 carries with five touchdowns. Oden went over the 1,000-yard mark on the season, the first Green Knights to surpass that plateau since 2006. His five rushing touchdowns tied a school record, joining Larry Krause (1968 vs. UW-River Falls) and Alec Getschow (2002 vs. Carroll University) in accomplishing the feat.
The Green Knights outgained Lakeland 408-265 and were also aided by 14 Muskies penalties worth 120 yards of assessments.
St. Norbert held Lakeland to a three-and-out to open the game and then scored on its first possession. The Green Knights scored when
Peyton Lyon found
Mitch Van Vooren on a 16-yard touchdown pass with 12:05 left in the first quarter. The Muskies advanced to the St. Norbert 9-yard line on their next series but were stopped on downs. St. Norbert marched 91 yards on just seven plays, scoring on a 23-yard touchdown pass from Lyon to
Austin Miller for a 14-0 lead with 4:12 left in the quarter.
Lakeland got on the board when it converted a third-and-24 situation when Robby Michael found Kolby Cohen on an 87-yard touchdown pass with 11:46 left in the second quarter and cut its deficit to 14-7. The rest of the quarter was all St. Norbert, with the Green Knights pumping in four more touchdowns before halftime. Lyon again connected with Van Vooren on a 3-yard touchdown with 7:59 left. St. Norbert then turned an interception from
Beau Allison into field possession at the Lakeland 1, scoring two plays later on Oden's 4-yard plunge with 2:13 left. A dropped snap on a Lakeland punting situation set the Green Knights again, needing just two plays to score on a 2-yard run by Oden with 1:38 left. The Green Knights then blocked a Lakeland punt and scored on a 5-yard Oden run with 19 seconds left before halftime, carrying a 41-7 lead into the break.
St. Norbert scored on its opening second-half possession, with Oden going in from four yards out with 10:33 left in the third quarter. A strip sack on Lakeland's next series by
Justin Benoit led to Allison recovering the fumble. Oden scored from 16 yards on out on the next play for a 55-7 lead with 9:13 left in the third quarter.
Lakeland scored the fourth quarter's only points on Michael's 31-yard touchdown pass to Jeremy Kobe with 8:31 remaining.
Lyon completed 7 of 12 passes for 102 yards with three touchdowns and two interceptions. Van Vooren caught three passes for 31 yards and two scores.
Will Darden added 52 rushing yards on 18 carries.
Michael completed 10 of 28 passes for 198 yards with two touchdowns and one interception to lead Lakeland.
Allison led St. Norbert with nine tackles, including two quarterback sacks.
Marc Thomas had six tackles, while
Kyle Santos,
