DE PERE – St. Norbert College stormed to a 5-1 victory over UW-Eau Claire in a non-conference game at Cornerstone Community Center, scoring three goals in the opening period to claim a tenth straight win to open the season.
The Green Knights (10-0, 6-0 NCHA), ranked No. 2 in the USCHO.com Division III poll, matched their best start to a season since going 10-0 to open the 2002-03 campaign.
Logan Dombrowsky found the back of the net first for St. Norbert, scoring at 8:00 in the first period. Liam Fraser would then add a second a few moments later, scoring an unassisted attempt that went past several skaters on a Blugolds' power play for a shorthanded goal. Brock Baker (pictured) added a third goal in a near perfect period for the Green Knights, as he scored with two seconds left before the first intermission. Dombrowsky added a second point in the period with an assist on the goal, with Mark Snarr also being credited with an assist as well.
After a scoreless second period, St. Norbert would come out roaring hot in the third, scoring two goals in less than a minute. Byron Hartley scored at 2:19, while Ian Famulak found his first goal of the season less than 50 seconds later.
Eau Claire was able to find a consolation goal at 11:30, with Nolan Grier scoring the Blugolds' only goal in the game.
With his 11th goal of the season, Fraser scored the game-winning goal for the sixth-straight game. The St. Norbert season record for such goals is seven, while the NCAA Division III record stands at nine.
Baker and Dombrowsky were the two multi-point players for St. Norbert in the game, with each scoring and assisting a goal. Braden Lindstrom, Michael Black, Jack Hillman, Cameron Morris and Ethan Byrne all recorded assists.
St. Norbert outshot Eau Claire 27-19. Hunter Garvey made 18 saves for the Green Knights.
The Green Knights went 0-for-3 on the power play, while the Blugolds went 0-for-2.
