DE PERE - St. Norbert College used a big first period en route to a 5-2 win over Bethel University in a non-conference game at Cornerstone Community Center.
The Green Knights (2-0), ranked No. 5 in the USCHO.com Division III Poll, pumped in three first-period goals to take control of a game in which it was never seriously threatened.
Calvin Hanson got St. Norbert on the board just 3:59 into the game for the early lead on his second goal of the young season.
Cameron Morris then posted his second goal of the year with a marker at 6:28. The Green Knights took a three-goal lead when
Byron Hartley's shot off a rebound was good for a power-play goal at 17:59.
Bethel scored at 7:57 of the second period on a goal by Tyler Braccini. St. Norbert wouldn't get a response until the waning moments of the period, when
Logan Dombrowsky finished when he punched in a loose puck at 19:56. It was also Dombrowsky's second goal of the season.
Ethan Byrne joined the two-goal club on opening weekend with a score at 12:27 of the third period. Bethel's Spencer Kring scored at 16:14 to close out the scoring.
Dombrowsky had one goal and one assist for two points.
Liam Fraser registered a pair of assists for two points.
St. Norbert outshot Bethel 31-26.
Grant Adams turned away 24 shots in his debut between the pipes for the Green Knights. Austin Ryman made 26 saves for the Royals, which included a pair of very difficult chances to keep the Green Knights from pulling away even further.
The Green Knights were 1-for-4 on the power play, while Bethel was 0-for-3.
