APPLETON - St. Norbert College found itself trailing by 10 points early in the third quarter but battled back behind a late surge in a 65-57 win over Lawrence University in a non-conference game at Alexander Gym.
Lawrence held a 39-29 lead with 6:47 left in the third quarter after a 3-pointer from Maggie Culver. The Green Knights promptly responded with a 10-0 run to get back into the game.
Rose Hahn's two free throws got things started, followed by a conventional three-point play from
Taylor Thiry.
Kalina Winslow had a fastbreak layup and
Emma Morrisey (pictured) followed with a 3-pointer to knot the game at 39-39 with 2:45 left in the period. The Green Knights trailed 44-43 at the end of the third quarter.
St. Norbert (3-0) opened the fourth quarter on a decisive 9-0 run over the first 2:54 of the period. Hahn had a conventional three-point play, followed by hoops from Thiry and Morrisey.
Avery Bierowski's second-chance basket with 7:06 to go put the Green Knights up 52-44. Lawrence's Charlotte Brennan canned a 3-pointer on the next possession, but
Casey Jepson answered with a trey of her own to push the lead back to eight. The Vikings wouldn't get their deficit down to two possessions until the game's final seconds.
The first quarter was tied 7-7 until the Vikings went on a 6-2 run to take a 13-9 lead at the first rest stop. Lawrence would hold five different seven-point leads in the second quarter until settling on a 31-27 halftime lead.
St. Norbert was 24-for-56 (42.9 percent) from the floor. Thiry led the Green Knights wit 18 points and six rebounds, while Winslow had a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Morrisey added nine points.
Lawrence shot 29.3 percent (17-for-58) from the floor. Brennan led the Vikings with 24 points, while Culver added 13 points and 11 rebounds.
