St. Norbert Turns Away Lakeland

DE PERE - St. Norbert College turned in an efficient performance to claim a 79-66 win over Lakeland University in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference game at Mulva Family Ftiness & Sports Center.

The Green Knights gave up a 3-pointer on the game's opening possession but then went on an 11-2 run to take control, getting a field goal each from all five starters. St. Norbert held a 25-18 lead just over the midway point of the first half and then went on an 11-1 run to take a 36-19 lead on Jamison Nickolai's 3-pointer with 3:55 to go. A Carter Gebler basket late in the first half sent St. Norbert into halftime with a 40-25 lead.

St. Norbert eventually took a pair of 21-point leads, the latter at 49-28 on a Garrett Grzesk 3-pointer with 15:38 left. The Green Knights kept a double-digit lead the rest of the way until Lakeland got to within 66-57 with 2:18 to go, but the Green Knights put the game away with a 7-0 run on another 3-pointer from Grzesk and two free throws each by Gebler and Nickolai for a 73-57 lead with just over a minute left.

St. Norbert shot 26-for-28 at the free-throw line, good for 92.9 percent. Including the Green Knights' 21-for-25 at the charity stripe in Wednesday's 83-76 win over Wisconsin Lutheran College, the Green Knights were 47-for-53 (88.7 percent) for the week.

The Green Knights shot 46 percent (23-for-50) from the floor, while rebounds were even at 33-33. Nickolai had 20 points and eight rebounds. Gebler finished with 12 points, while Beauchamp had 10 points and five rebounds off the bench.

Lakeland, which was held to 19 points under its season scoring average, shot 39 percent (23-for-59) from the floor. Brayden Kennedy had 19 points, while Asanjai Hunter finished with 14 points. Cam Jaeger, who entered the game as the NACC's leading scorer at 20.7 points per game, was held to 11 points with 10 rebounds.
