MILWAUKEE - St. Norbert College held a one-point halftime lead but Wisconsin Lutheran College pulled away in the second half as the Green Knights fell 54-44 in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference game at Time of Grace Center.
The Green Knights led 26-25 at intermission but the Warriors got a 3-pointer on their second possession of the third quarter to take the lead. A pair of
Taylor Thiry free throws brought St. Norbert back to even at 28-28 at the 8:24 mark, but Wisconsin Lutheran answered with a Sam Leisemann layup to give the host a lead it would not relinquish. The Warriors went up six but the Green Knights got back to within 35-33 at the end of the third quarter.
Wisconsin Lutheran built a 43-35 lead with 6:28 left but St. Norbert got back in the game with a 5-0 run inside the four-minute mark, with a Thiry jumper and an
Emma Morrisey 3-pointer getting the Green Knights to 45-44 - but they would not score the rest of the way. Leisemann's basket at 2:56 made it a three-point game and she followed with a jumper at 1:04 to salt the game away.
The first quarter featured three ties but
Kalina Winslow's 3-pointer with 6 seconds left in the period to give the Green Knights a 15-13 lead through 10 minutes. Morrisey's conventional three-point play on the first possession of the second quarter but St. Norbert up 18-13, but the Warriors went on an 8-0 run to take a three-point lead. Winslow put St. Norbert back in front at 24-23 with 3:14 left, while
Macey Mercer drained a pair of free throws with 1:32 to go for a 26-23 lead. A Meggie Scott basket with 28 seconds left made it a one-point game at halftime.
St. Norbert shot 35.7 percent (15-for-42) from the floor but was outrebounded 41-26. Thiry was the lone Green Knights in double figures with 10 points, while
Rose Hahn added eight points.
Wisconsin Lutheran shot 36.7 percent (18-for-49) from the floor but had an 11-3 edge in second-chance points. Leisemann finished with 15 points and 12 rebounds, while Scott added 14 points.
