Late Stromp Goal Completes Furious St. Norbert Rally

DE PERE - St. Norbert College got a redirected goal by Will Stromp with 36.9 seconds remaining to lift the Green Knights to a 3-2 win over Lawrence University in a Northern Collegiate Hockey Association game at Cornerstone Community Center.

Stromp, with his back to the net, redirected a pass from the point by Michael Black to beat a befuddled Lawrence goaltender Nolan Mahaffey. The goal finished off a St. Norbert rally from a 2-0 deficit through two periods. It was Stromp's second late game-winning goal in five days, also scoring an overtime game-winning goal this past Tuesday in a 4-3 triumph over UW-Stevens Point.

Neither team found the net in the first period, but Lawrence took the lead with a Robby Pustulka goal at 7:36. The Vikings doubled their lead when Ethan Beaumont scored at 15:21.

St. Norbert would break through early in the third period, when Adam Stacho scored his 12th goal of the season just 48 seconds into the final period. T.J. Koufis' shot from the slot at the 5:22 mark tied the game at 2-2 on his eighth goal of the year.

The Green Knights pulled ahead when Koufis wrapped the puck behind the net and up the far wall, where Black held the puck in at the blue line. His pass was then redirected by a defended Stromp to push St. Norbert out front.

Koufis finished with St. Norbert's lone multi-point game with one goal and one assist for two points.

St. Norbert outshot Lawrence 31-15, including 15-7 in the third period. Hunter Garvey made 13 saves for the Green Knights, while Mahaffey made 28 stops for the Vikings.

The Green Knights were 0-for-1 on the power play, while Lawrence was 0-for-3.
