Green Knights Never Trail In Rout Of MSOE

DE PERE - St. Norbert College never trailed en route to a convincing 76-53 win over Milwaukee School of Engineering in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference game at Mulva Family Fitness & Sports Center.

With the win, the Green Knights (10-9, 7-3 NACC) moved into a tie for third place in the NACC with Aurora University. Those two teams square off at 2 p.m. Saturday in De Pere.

St. Norbert jumped ahead on the game's first possession when Macey Mercer splashed a 3-pointer. Taylor Thiry followed a possession later for a quick 5-0 lead. The Green Knights made their first five field-goal attempts to take a 12-3 lead, capped by a Rose Hahn layup. The Raiders would go on a 9-2 run to get to within 14-12, but St. Norbert responded with a 10-2 run to close out the first quarter to lead 24-14 at the first rest stop.

The Green Knights saw a 26-16 lead balloon to an 18-point spread when Emma Morrisey had two 3-pointers sandwiched around a Thiry basket for a 34-16 edge with 6:32 left. St. Norbert led 38-21 at halftime.

St. Norbert maintained a lead in the teens throughout the third quarter, with a Mercer 3 late in the period putting the Green Knights ahead 58-37 at the end of the stanza. The Green Knights led by as many as 25 points in the fourth quarter, coming with 2:25 left on a Kaya Stropus triple to make it 76-51.

The Green Knights shot a robust 55.6 percent (30-for-54) from the floor and were 11-for-21 (52.4 percent) from beyond the three-point arc. Thiry had a game-high 18 points, while Morrisey had 14 points and eight assists. Marnie Kahl came off the bench to add 10 points.

MSOE shot 37 percent (17-for-46) from the floor. Halena Hill led the Raiders with 14 points.
