CHICAGO - St. Norbert College won its seventh consecutive game with a solid 74-49 win over Illinois Institute of Technology in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conferene game at Keating Sports Center.
The Green Knights (14-7, 11-3 NACC), who trail Wisconsin Lutheran College by one game for first place in the NACC standings, travel to Milwaukee Tuesday to face the Warriors in a key matchup.
St. Norbert never trailed and jumped out to a 10-2 lead with just over six minutes gone by after a layup and 3-pointer from
Jamison Nickolai and a layup by
Evan Glaser. A
Vito LaGioia 3-pointer put St. Norbert up 13-3 with 11:44 left in the half, and the Scarlet Hawks would get no closer than seven points the rest of the game. Consecutive treys from
Aidan Harrington and
Garrett Grzesk put the Green Knights ahead 26-14 with 5:22 left in the half. St. Norbert would take a 35-23 lead into halftime.
The Green Knights went on a 7-0 run on the first three possessions of the second half to take firm control. Two layups by Glaser were sandwiched around a Grzesk 3-pointer for a 42-23 lead with 18:31 to go. St. Norbert's lead never dipped below 20 points the final 10:51 of the game.
St. Norbert shot 50.9 percent (29-for-57) from the floor and outrebounded the Scarlet Hawks 44-29. Glaser had a team-high 12 points for the Green Knights, who had 11 players crack the scoring column. Grzesk added 11 points and
Connor Beauchamp had 10 points. Payant had eight points with 12 rebounds.
Illinois Tech shot 35.2 percent (19-for-54) and was 5-for-30 (16.7 percent) from distance. Garrison Carter had a game-high 14 points.
