MADISON - St. Norbert College had to rally in the second half but finished regular-season play in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference unbeaten after an 86-70 win over Edgewood College at the Todd Wehr Edgedome.
The Green Knights were a perfect 18-0 in NACC play and set a St. Norbert record for regular-season wins by finishing the schedule 22-3. St. Norbert will host a NACC Tournament semifinal game at 7 p.m. Thursday at Mulva Family Fitness & Sports Center.
St. Norbert jumped out to a 28-17 lead after a frenetic first quarter. The Green Knights went on a 10-2 run to take a 20-8 lead just 5 1/2 minutes into the game, fueled by a pair of
Natalie Cerrato 3-pointers. A pair of
Taylor Thiry layups in the last 63 seconds gave the Green Knights their 11-point cushion at the end of the first 10 minutes.
Another Cerrato 3-pointer put St. Norbert up 31-19 with 9:07 left in the second quarter, but Edgewood then went on a 15-2 run to take a 34-33 lead with 4:45 left. The Eagles would take a 38-37 lead into halftime.
The third quarter stayed close throughout, with neither team leading by more than four points.
Olivia DeCleene's 3-pointer with 10 seconds left in the period gave the Green Knights a 58-54 lead.
Edgewood closed to within 58-56 with 9:45 left to play, but the Green Knights went on a 9-0 run to finally take control. DeCleene hit a pair of 3-pointers sandwiched around a
Rose Hahn trey for a 67-56 lead with 7:34 to go. A Cerrato 3-pointer with 4:46 left put St. Norbert ahead 76-61 with 5:39 left and effectively sealed the outcome.
St. Norbert shot 42.7 percent (32-for-75) from the floor and committed just five turnovers.
Kaycee Gierczak had 18 points and eight rebounds. DeCleene narrowly missed a triple double with 17 points, nine assists and nine rebounds. Cerrato also added 17 points, while Thiry chipped in 10 points.
Edgewood shot 44.8 percent (26-for-58) from the floor. Paige Banks led the Eagles with 22 points and 10 rebounds, while Vivian Guerrero had 16 points and 15 rebounds.
