DE PERE – St. Norbert College picked up its first win of the season with a 74-27 win over Northland College at the Nicolet National Bank Tip-Off Tournament at Mulva Family Fitness & Sports Center.
The Green Knights trailed just once – at 3-2 – before going on a 20-0 run to take control. Five different Green Knights scored to start the run – a jumper from
Rose Hahn, jumpers from
Taylor Thiry and
Marnie Kahl, a layup by
Kalina Winslow and a 3-pointer from
Casey Jepson put St. Norbert up 1-3. Baskets from Hahn, Kahl, two free throws from Jepson and a 3-pointer from
Kat Miller gave the Green Knights a 22-3 lead late in the first quarter before finishing the first 10 minutes ahead 23-5.
Northland cut its deficit down to 27-11 with 6:44 left in the second quarter before the Green Knights went on a 17-5 run before halftime. Thiry converted a layup,
Emma Morrisey splashed a 3-pointers and Hahn finished a fast break with a lay-in for a 44-16 lead at the break.
St. Norbert's lead eventually ruptured to over 40 points with a 59-18 advantage with 2:40 left in the third quarter on an
Ellison Lilyquist basket. The Green Knights led 63-20 after three quarters and led by as many as 49 points in the fourth quarter.
The Green Knights shot 49.1 percent (28-for-57) from the floor and outrebounded the Lumberjills 47-26. A total of 13 St. Norbert players cracked the scoring column. Jepson was the only Green Knight in double figures with 14 points. Thiry and Kahl added nine points apiece, while Hahn finished with eight points.
Northland shot 19.6 percent (10-for-51) from the floor. Tianna McKinley led the Lumberjills with 13 points.
St. Norbert will face The University of Olivet at 3 p.m. Saturday in its second game of the tournament.
