DE PERE – St. Norbert College remained unbeaten on the young 2023-24 season with a convincing 86-55 win over Lawrence University in a non-conference game at Mulva Family Fitness & Sports Center.
The Green Knights (3-0) built a double-digit lead seven minutes into the game and were never seriously threatened the rest of the way.
St. Norbert led 13-8 before a jumper and 3-pointer by
Derek Shaw gave the Green Knights an 18-8 lead with 13:05 left in the first half. A
Brandt Wilson layup gave St. Norbert a 20-8 lead. Lawrence got a trey of its own to get back to within nine points, but a pair of
Connor Beauchamp free throws and a 3-pointer by
Carter Gebler pushed St. Norbert ahead 25-11 with 8:41 left in the half.
Lawrence got a basket but the Green Knights pulled away with a quick 8-0 run on 3-pointers by
Aidan Harrington and
Vance Katzfey sandwiched around a Gebler basket for a 33-13 lead with 6 minutes left in the half. An
Evan Glaser putback just before halftime sent St. Norbert into halftime ahead 44-23.
St. Norbert continued to pull away in the second half, with a Beauchamp layup pushing the Green Knights out front 62-32 with 13:47 left. The Green Knights never led by less than 26 the rest of the way, and eventually built a 37-point lead at 83-46 on an
Alex Georgakas 3-pointer with 2:29 to go.
St. Norbert shot 53.2 percent (33-for-62) from the floor and was 12-for-27 (44.4 percent) from distance while recording 23 assists. The Green Knights also held a commanding 50-19 rebounding advantage and committed just five personal fouls. Gebler had a team-high 13 points in just 17 minutes, while
Garrett Grzesk added 11 points and
Jamison Nickolai added 10 points and nine rebounds. Glaser totaled seven points, six rebounds and five assists in the post. A total of 16 Green Knights cracked the scoring column.
Lawrence shot 35 percent (21-for-60) from the floor and 29 percent (9-for-31) from beyond the three-point arc. Nicholas Gouriotis led the Vikings with 15 points.
