DE PERE - St. Norbert College scored on its opening attack of the match and used the momentum to post a sound 3-0 win over Rockford University in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Contest at Schneider Stadium.
The Green Knights (6-4-2, 5-1-1 NACC) took the lead just 23 seconds into the match when
John OConnor took the ball up the left side, held possession and threaded a pass through the crease. The ball found the foot of
Joe Meade, whose one-timer was clean for his ninth goal of the season and a 1-0 lead.
St. Norbert doubled its lead when
Kevin Ramirez posted his second goal of the year, completing a direct kick into the top of the cage at the 31-minute mark. The 2-0 lead would hold up until halftime.
The Green Knights effectively put the match away when
Tyler Bonin's strong effort against two Rockford defenders lead to a shot into the goal at 48:04. Bonin's goal, with
Dominic Lagona assisting, was his seventh of the season.
St. Norbert outshot Rockford 11-6 for the match, including 8-0 in the first half.
Ryan Fleming worked the first 54:23 to get the win in goal, while
Nate Jocz made three saves in relief for the Green Knights.
