DE PERE - St. Norbert College and Wisconsin Lutheran College battled to a scoreless draw through double overtime in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Tournament quarterfinal match, but the Green Knights eked out a 3-2 win in the shootout in a post-season thriller at Schneider Stadium.
The Green Knights (8-6-4) advance to a NACC Tournament semifinal at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Milwaukee School of Engineering.
Wisconsin Lutheran held a 2-1 lead through the top of the third round of the shootout after a pair of Green Knights misses. St. Norbert goalkeeper
Ryan Fleming turned away the Warriors' attempt in the bottom of the third to keep the Green Knights in it.
Jonathan Hill converted for the Green Knights in the top of the fourth, and Fleming made another "Grade A" save in the bottom of the inning to keep the score tied at 2-2.
Charles Danaher then put home a well-placed kick to give the Green Knights a 3-2 lead and shifting the pressure to the Warriors. Wisconsin Lutheran goalkeeper Puma Galvan took the final attempt, with Fleming making a diving stop to send St. Norbert into the semifinals and set off a wild on-field celebration.
Regulation time and overtime were evenly played with very few scoring chances. St. Norbert outshot Wisconsin Lutheran 7-6, with each team getting two shots in overtime. The Warriors had five corner kicks to the Green Knights' four.
Fleming officially finished with two saves, while Galvan made four stops for the Warriors.
