DE PERE - St. Norbert College extended its winning streak to eight consecutive matches with a 3-0 non-conference win over Northland College and a 3-1 victory over Illinois Institute of Technololgy in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference match at Mulva Family Fitness & Sports Center.
The Green Knights (14-10, 6-2 NACC) topped Northland 25-18, 25-20, 26-24 and then bested Illinois Tech 25-22, 26-28, 25-19, 25-18.
St. Norbert and Northland locked up in a tight first set that featured 11 ties and six lead changes. The score was tied 13-13 before a quick 3-0 St. Norbert spurt, paced by a
Heidi Colburn kill and two
Rylie Gregg service aces for a 16-13 lead. The Lumberjills would get to within 17-15 but another 3-0 run gave St. Norbert some breathing room. In Set 2, St. Norbert saw a 10-10 score rupture into a 20-11 advantage. The third set featured 15 ties and six lead changes, including a 15-13 deficit for the Green Knights. St. Norbert eventually led 19-16 before Northland got back into it, forcing a deuce set at 24-24. A Gregg kill and a Northland attacking error closed out the match.
St. Norbert hit .261 for the match, with 50 kills and 13 errors in 142 attempts.
Brooke Clement had 11 kills, while Gregg finished with 10.
Ellie Hartson had 31 assists. Hartson and Gregg had two service aces apiece.
Erin Eggers had 16 digs,
Andrianna Volz 14 and Clement and Hartson had 12 each.
Molly Rader had five blocks, while
Linnea Svennes had four.
Northland hit .118 with 36 kills and 19 errors in 146 attempts. Bailey Wynn had a team-high 12 kills.
Against Illinois Tech, St. Norbert had to survive 15 ties in the opening set and turned a 16-15 deficit into a 19-17 lead. The set was tied three times after that, the last at 21-21 before the Green Knights went on a 4-1 run to take a 1-0 lead. The second set saw ties at 24, 25 and 26, but St. Norbert could never get to set point and dropped a tough deuce set. The Green Knights then jumped out to a leads of 5-0 and 7-1 before the Scarlet Hawks got to within 9-8, but St. Norbert never relinquished its lead and took a 2-1 advantage. St. Norbert got off to another quick start in Set 4, leading 4-1 and 11-3. Illinois Tech would get to within 14-10 but would get no closer.
The Green Knights hit .278, with 60 kills and 16 errors in 158 attempts.
Alyssa Mills had a career-high 22 kills, while Gregg had 14 kills and Clement 12. Hartson had 28 assists and
Heidi Colburn finished with 18. Hartson also had three service aces.
Eggers finished with 23 digs, while Clement and Hartson had 11 each.
Illinois Tech hit .221, with 54 kills and 20 errors in 154 attempts. Maria Alcantara and London Francis each had 13 kills.
