St. Norbert Comes Up Short

DE PERE - St. Norbert College scored just 23 second-half points and saw a 10-point halftime lead go by the wayside in a 66-61 loss to Wisconsin Lutheran College in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference game at Mulva Family Fitness & Sports Center.

The Green Knights led 38-28 at halftime and held their largest lead at 45-33 with 15:30 remaining on a Michael Payant basket, but St. Norbert would score just two field goals over the next 12:50 to allow Wisconsin Lutheran to take control.

St. Norbert led 47-37 with 12:07 left and managed seven points until Garrett Grzesk's 3-pointer with 2:40 to go brought the Green Knights, which had trailed by five, to within 59-57. Wisconsin Lutheran's Jacob Stoltz then made his only field goal in 12 attempts with a trey to boost the Warriors' lead back to five with 2:15 to go. St. Norbert cut the deficit to 64-61 on a basket by Carter Gebler with 26 seconds left and the Green Knights forced a turnover in the backcourt. The Green Knights missed a potential game-tying 3-pointer and got the offensive rebound, but a pass was stolen by Wisconsin Lutheran to seal the win.

The Green Knights jumped out to a 13-3 lead to start the game and led for most of the first half. St. Norbert led 27-24 with 4:18 left in the half and closed the period on a 11-4 run to take a 38-28 lead at the break.

St. Norbert shot 34.4 percent from the floor for the game, making just 21 of 61 field-goal attempts. The Green Knights were 7-for-33 (21.2 percent) from the floor in the second half. Evan Glaser led St. Norbert with 19 points, while Grzesk added 14 points and Gebler 12. St. Norbert held a 45-35 rebounding advantage, which included 20 offensive rebounds.

Wisconsin Lutheran shot 34.6 percent (18-for-52) from the floor but was 23-for-28 (82.1 percent) at the free-throw line. Grayston Goetz led the Warriors with 18 points, while Ryan Broeckel added 14 points.
