LAKE PLACID, N.Y. - St. Norbert College seniors Brendan Mark and Michael McChesney came away with silver medals after playing for the United States hockey team at the World University Games following a 7-2 defeat at the hands of Canada in the gold medal game Sunday, Jan. 22, at Herb Brooks Arena.

Mark, a defenseman from Grand Rapids, Minn., and McChesney, a forward from Dickinson, N.D., were a part of an American squad that had its highest-ever finish in ice hockey at the World University Games. The United States team at the World University Games was comprised of players from the NCAA Division III level for the first time.

In the gold medal game, Canada jumped out to a 4-0 lead and led 5-1 after two periods. Mark rang up a 5-on-3 power-play goal at 14:31 of the third period to cut the American's deficit to 5-2, but the Canadians added a pair of insurance markers to close out the win. Canada had a 47-19 shots on goal advantage.

The United States finished with a 5-2 overall record at the tournament. Both Mark - the team captain - and McChesney played in all seven games. In the tournament, Mark scored three goals and one assist for four points, while McChesney recorded one goal for one point.
